Raspberri Pi with Official Touchscreen and Too Much Apple!

I don't know about you, but I'm done seeing almost nothing but Apple news in my feeds today. XD  Anywho, onto today's news about things other than Apple.  The Raspberry Pi now has an official touchscreen attachment!

To get your RPi this fancy add on, it'll set you back $60.  The interface, according to Gordon Hollingworth at the Raspberry Pi Foundation, the display is working through DSI and DPI connections.  The display itself is manufactured by Inelco Hunter with the follow specs:

  • RGB 800×480 display @60fps
  • 24-bit colour
  • FT5406 10 point capacitive touchscreen
  • 70 degree viewing angle
  • Metal-backed display with mounting holes for the Pi

The Raspberry Pi Foundation is pleased with the end product and I'm happy to see this humble device expanding further.  I've even been seeing posts like this about how this upgrade could allow for a cheap touchscreen tablet.  I can't wait to see what projects come out of this!

Tesla's Model S P85D is apparently so safe, that it broke Consumer Report's rating system.  The safety rating system is designed so that the highest possible score is a 100... the Model S had a final score of 103.  103!!!  It's such a big deal that Consumer Reports is making the findings public and not behind their usual paywall.  Even at that score, Consumer Reports did find things that Tesla could improve on, such as improving the interior (compared to other luxury cars of the same price) and the logistical challenge of charging the car while on a trip.  Just goes to show how much engineering Tesla has put into this car to prove that it is safe than what the car industry has been able to pull off.

Today's last news article is the return of Adblock Plus for Android, and the arrival of it for iPhone.  It's a fact today that a lot of people use ad blocks and for many reasons.  I use them because there is the risk that an ad can infect my computer, and a lot of ads now are just so obtrusive and demanding.  I do whitelist sites I visit frequently and want to support them with their ads *cough*Goblinbyte&cough*.  For those who want to combat ads on their phone, and save data usage and battery life, consider giving it a try.

Hopefully this gets you up to speed on current tech news, and as always, stay safe goblins!
