Thunderbird - [link]
This is the first tool I use on a regular basis on my personal machine. I have quite a few email addresses, and they are hosted by different providers. There are lots of reasons I have so many, but I'd rather not log into each individual email account on each service, I'd rather pull them into once spot for me to check. Thunderbird is the best software I have found for this. When adding an account for any of the major email providers (Google, Microsoft, Yahoo, etc.), it's able to automatically pull the details for either IMAP or POP. For extra security, I can even lock down Thunderbird where it won't pull up email until entering a master password.
KeePass - [link]
The most essential software I use today because I've been using for years to store my passwords. I'm not too big on the cloud password managers, so I use KeePass, which is multi-platform (as long as you use KeePass 1.X). I can pull up my passwords on Windows, Linux or Android. It's able to store all the info I need in an easy to use interface and all the tools and options necessary to ensure your digital life is safe with a strong password.
GIMP - [link]
This is my go-to tool for image editing. It's a robust piece of software that can rival Adobe, and this is free! Is it not able to perform a function you need? You can check out their plugin repository. As a note, I highly recommend using single-window mode under view. If you're a fan of Photoshop, no worries, you can get GIMP to act more like it. I would also like to give a shout out to Paint.NET. This was the editor I used for quite some time before I switched to GIMP, which I mostly did because I had planned to use Linux more about three years ago.
Filezilla - [link]
I use this on a regular basis to move files around while I work on the OmniKraft servers. It's easy to use and also multi-platform. It has all the tools I need to manage the files on the remote servers. There is even a server version if you want an easy-to-manage setup. It's a solid platform.
GnuCash - [link]
This is how I manage my finances. When growing up, my mom taught me a lot into how to manage my money, but being technology savvy, I didn't want to deal with a handwritten check register, I wanted something on the computer. This is when I found GnuCash, but it's more than check a check register. It has tools available to handle all my financial needs and more. It can help with investments, company expenses, reporting and even more than that. It's easy to use, and again, multi-platform.
What software do you use on a regular basis and how do you use it? Is there something above you haven't heard of or never tried? What would you like to see in future quickies? Let us know in the comments below, and as always, stay safe goblins!
