Maybe you can!
Years ago, I took part in a Myers Brigs Exam, which although the psychometrics told me I was X and others were Y, Ultimately we were still in the same box that we were in before. Many organisations swear by Myers Brigs and use it actively in recruiting teams.
There are voices which say that the Myers Brigs test is a waste of time and is now a money generating money for the certified consultants who walk people through it.
Although I found the test interesting when I took it, I have to concede that the Myers Brigs test is not the best place we can be placing our money when recruiting talent.
Fast forward to a couple of years ago, I was part of a training session run by a company called OND, run by one of their team in the UK.
It completely changed my outlook on how teams should interact and behave, how we should work together with users and how we can engage with people differently.
Where Myers Brigs is focused on saying you are a special snowflake, here is why. Method Teaming is focused entirely on teams.
I don't want to rehash what they have already presented on their website about Method Teaming, My personal experience of it has led to these benefits:
- If explaining a concept or proposal my first goal is to work out who you are then pitch accordingly, are you a detail heavy person or a detail light person? Tailor your package correctly to the audience, never use one size fits all. Method Teaming gives the language for identifying who the audience is.
- When collaborating with others, Being aware of your own weaknesses is great but being aware of others strong areas helps us work together more efficiently as I can let go of the areas I am weak in.
- Searching for the right new member of the team can be tough, Method Teaming helps you identify who you need, why you need them and what to look for when interviewing candidates.
Please do check out their website, If you are thinking of spending money on Myers Brigs or other team building days, consider doing work on Method Teaming instead.
