#Google+ #G+ #socialnetwork #facebook #twitter #myspace
This may come as a shock to many, I love Google+, hell I called it the title of this post, not because I'm any sort of political nut job or paranoid fruitcake who thinks Facebook is stealing our info and feeding the man. I legitimately think Google Plus is the best social networking platform out there, no I don't have a Facebook, I have no Twitter account, I don't even have a Myspace. I had a Facebook for a bit, but it was always lacking something. I may soon open one up just for my blog, but that's really it... not to share with the world anything beyond my blog. Why don't I like other social networking sites though?
Lets start with content. When I was about 19 or 20 I had a Facebook, posted silly things from time to time, and slowly began to watch the people my age get absorbed into Facebook, and begin to expel moronic posts from their finger tips. "Going out of town next week so excited," cool thanks for letting me know who to rob. "I just bought a coke from 7 11," who cares? Why did you just tell the world that? "OMG Really?" What the hell is that? That is the whole context of your post? Two damn words with no explanation beyond 'give me attention'? "Help me on the farm by raising my pigs" No, go die or something, I'm not spending my time helping you raise a cyber animal. No-one helped me with my tamagotchi, you get no help with your stupid animals.
But this is the basis of what Facebook really is, its a platform to share dimwitted content with the masses, I don't care where you got a coke, I don't even care you got a coke. This is the reason it thrives though, someone will give it a thumbs up, and they'll be driven to post again. A dog training tactic used on people, post something, get rewarded, yay do it again.
Twitter isn't any better, their content is the same in almost every way except its shortened and comes in random bursts. With a 180 character limit, you end up with grammatically horrendous content more often than not, people using hashtags for everything and shorthand typing with u r 2 and the whole lot. I hate it, what is the point? Do you really need to tell people you got new shoes? Nope. Do you really need to check in every time you go to tacobell? No. But yet there is some form of tractor beam causing people to succumb to the powers of the internet. Come look at this post, you'll feel dumber afterwards.
Now this is why I find Google Plus different, the content is genuine, the crowds are small, the pointless posts are few. I can share content only with people who care, not the world. Let only my friends know I'll be in Austin, or only let my family know I'm getting married. Small private groups dictated by my creation. Or I can join communities of public groups united with a common purpose, learning this, learning that, enthusiasts of that thing, or this thing. Not "I just crapped myself at the mall, I'm so sad" you're not in my circle, you're not being force fed to me.
Lets not overlook one of the best part, the integration into EVERYTHING!!! Google drive, android, Google docs, YouTube, Google Play, Google Cardboard, Blogger, everything one account. Even if I have no intentions of using my Google Plus for the social networking aspect, I can still use it for something else. One account, one password, everything.
My Google account does everything for me. I can use it to learn from others and teach others on Google + with content relevant to my needs. No brain numbing IQ wash plastered on "walls" or "feeds". I can use it to watch video's, I can use it to do work with documents, I can use it to store files. All around it may not be as popular as Facebook or twitter, but I like it that way. I'm not forced to look at what I don't want to, but I'm given the opportunity to grow myself.
Google Plus isn't going to replace Facebook, it's not going to replace Twitter, its a different beast completely, and from my perspective, an arguably much better platform. And as always, be safe my goblins.
