Elite Hat Hackers

We've discussed the good, we've discussed the bad, we've discussed the neutral, who else could be left in terms of hacking?  Possibly the most inconspicuous and secretive hat out there, the least known, the most powerful, and the fewest number.  The elite hat hacker, or more easily put, the architect of our hackingsphere.

Yes, the elite hat is rare, as I said they are our architect of creation.  Sure anyone can learn how to DDOS, or log onto a network and listen for traffic, they are 5 minute tutorials on you tube for everything we want to know.  If you want to learn anything you can watch free video's from Professor Messer or Eli The Computer Guy, and they will teach you anything you want to know.  But these skills and tactics don't come from anywhere, someone has to find them.

Leaving us with our most out of the box thinker in the realm of hacking, this is what these individuals do.  They will spend hours, days, weeks, months, years poking code, and trying to make a Rube Goldberg Machine out of what they have in front of them.  To find an alternate use for what they've been handed, or find a way to break it.  This means even your most proficient white and black hat hackers are using known tactics to get things done.  Fuzzing, black boxing, and any other test you want to try will only test what is known, making the elite hat the most useful, most dangerous, and most helpful hacker out there.

No classification of white, grey, or black can be used as what they are doing is producing a new tool for all the hats to use.  And depending on who uses the tools, their implementation could vary.  On one hand releasing this knowledge to the public means a black hat can exploit a newly found flaw and destroy what ever they want for fun or personal gain.  On the other hand that means a white hat now has a new tool to test products with and make sure they are safe before a black hat can take advantage of it.

If they never released the info to the public, someone else will come in and find it anyway, so even IF they didn't share it, an elite hat who tends to spend his free time in a black hat could possibly find it and use it for their own purposes.  This is why consultants and famous hackers like Kevin Mitnick are so great at what they do, sure it costs a lot of money to know the info, but hot damn what they do is important.

Hacking a mainframe with Metasploit doesn't make you elite, making Metasploit makes you elite.  And as always, be safe my goblins.  (lots of links today dang.)
