Microsoft has confirmed that it will be selling Windows 10 on USB drives. Micorsoft shows again it's learning more about what it's customers want and being mindful on solutions for providing it's products to consumers. You can find these USB drives on Amazon for example. “Windows 10 will be available on USB drives for purchase in retail channels shortly after launch,” a Microsoft spokesperson told VentureBeat.
Windows 8 actually made a step in this direction and the Windows 10 preview period continued that by having tools available to install the ISO onto a USB drive. Not only is a USB much more convenient, but I also think that the CD drive is starting to fade. With the launch of the netbook, it was the first mainstream device to save space and remove this low-scale storage medium. CDs still only hold around 700 MB, with DVDs and Blu-rays offering more.
I can't see any downside by Microsoft going the USB path over CD, it can hold more data in less space, it has a chance to offer branding advertising if someone decides to carry one of these around. Are you glad they are on USB drives, or do you see a risk that I haven't thought of? Let us know in the comments.
And as always, stay safe goblins.
