Mastering the foundation

Network security, software vulnerability, penetration testing, port scanning, spoofing, malware, anything imaginable in the IT security sector is build on a simple foundation.  Nothing in this world is built on advanced teachings that can't be explained without a reasonable level of simplicity.  Mastering the simple opens moderately more complex tasks that to a degree are simple if the previous steps are mastered and accounted for.
As a security blog it seems to be a daily occurrence the question of "how can I hack [blank]" comes up.  Now we've gone over in the past that hacking isn't what hollywood depicts, but instead of approaching that route, we're going to discuss something different, instead of telling someone this isn't what they think it is, we'll talk about what need's to be known moving forward.  Not in just this task, but all tasks for the future.

Now in the world of hacking there is one key fundamental difference between it, and most other trades or passions.  In fields such as being a chef, you're expected to know how to cook, there is no real need for the chef to know how to grow their own organic tomato's, you can start out by being a chef at the end of the line.  Same thing applies to being a driver, you're expected to know how to drive and how to drive well, maybe know a thing or two about the way an engine sounds and how to tweak it, but not to the degree you're expected to know how to put wheels on the rim.  When it comes to hacking or anything in IT, the advanced level approach requires fundamental and foundation level knowledge to make sense of the end game.

I'm writing all of this to instill that mentality of fundamental level knowledge is needed to move forward, and I don't want to stunt anyone's growth from moving forward with a dream, but we need to make sure they are looking down the right direction.  For example with networking basics you need to know what an IP address is in able to understand what and why you're spoofing an IP address.  You'll need to know what spoofing means, you'll need to know what the difference between a switch and a hub is, really basic subject matter.

Moving forward we are going to help people learn what they want to learn, this includes the foundations and the basics of networking, routing, exploitation, software, operating systems, a little bit of everything.  There will be hacking tutorials but I really must enforce the idea that to ever be respected in the arena of hacking you're going to need to know the basics.  Don't let this be a discouragement from achieving your goals though, but on that same note don't expect hacking to be a "I opened a google page" solution to learning a complex task.

I'm going to help you learn what needs to be learned to move towards mastery of hacking.  If you're going to master hacking, you're going to master TCP/IP, or you're going to master coding, or you're going to master Linux.  But until that point you won't be able to achieve the official title of hacker.

Why does hacking WiFi work?  What does IP spoofing do?  What is a man in the middle attack?  Those are the questions we will be answering, and hidden inside will be the how to.

This blog isn't strictly about hacking though, as the number of bloggers here has increased we will be teaching about a ton of other subjects, discussing tech news, and sharing funny tech stories.  What sort of things do you guys want to read about or learn?  Let us know in the comment section below and we'll see what we can put together for you.  And as always be safe my goblins.
