April Fools For Computers

#aprilfools #computers #BSOD #keyboard #fail

That's right I'm a day or so late for this, but hey now you have time to prep for next year.  When working in IT we have lots of time to do some fun stuff, learn new tricks, and learn new pranks.  This is my list for some of the best april fools pranks you can play on friends, family, co-workers, or just some guy at starbucks (don't do the starbucks guy, you can get arrested.)

BSOD Wallpaper

Yep this is going to have to be my favorite for a couple reasons, its extremely easy to do, I've done it to tons of people, and... I almost got fired for it once.  Sits pretty near and dear to my heart.  First google search for a good BSOD wallpaper, set it as the persons wallpaper.  Next delete all the icons on their desktop.  And finally right click their taskbar go into properties, 2nd option down there is a checkbox that says "Auto-Hide the taskbar", check that and you're golden.  Next time the person goes to use their computer, boom BSOD, auto freak out, epic laughs.

Flipped Computer Screen

This is just plain fun, and can get very very cruel depending on how far you want to push it.  The simplest way of doing this is take a screen shot of the persons desktop.  Press Print Screen on your keyboard and open up windows paint.  On the top bar there is an edit button for rotate 180 degrees.  Flip the screen, delete the persons icons on their desktop.  Make the taskbar autohide, and change their wallpaper to the flipped screen.  This can be confusing, to make it MORE fun, if the person has an intel graphics card, hitting ctrl + alt + up (can't find the arrow key combo) and it'll reoriente the screen so the top is the bottom, and vice versa.  Enjoy the complete confusion when they can't click a button, and when they do, it does nothing.  Oh the torture.

Swap Icons For Links

This one takes a little bit of time, not simply click click hooray.  Might need to preplan a little, I suggest getting a screenshot of your victims desktop, so you can compare what needs to be done.  What we're going to do is make a bunch of new shortcuts.  First make a shortcut called "Internet Explorer", for the source it wants to draw from, lets use some really evil websites.  I'm not going to share some really really really devious ones, but here is a fun one for you. http://bringvictory.com/ good ole fashion fun times.  Delete the previous "internet explorer" shortcut from the desktop, and right click your new shortcut and go under properties.  The far right tab says "customize", at the bottom of the customize tab you can change your icon to... what you just replaced.  Do this for as many icons you can, or want to do.

Now the reason I said do the screen shot first though, is so you can make your icons before you get to the computer and have them on a flash drive.  Quick covert operations, copy and paste, you have yourself a good time.  "WHY IS MY COMPUTER TAKING ME TO RICK ASTLEY!!!"

Sticky Note Mouse

Now this is a classic, and extremely easy to do, find a victim, get a sticky note, or piece of paper and tape.  Cover up the optical lens or laser under their mouse, troll epicness on a simple stage, they can't do anything, they freak out, good laughs.  Really not much to say about this one, its just damn funny.

The End, for now

Yeah I can give more evil pranks that will cause some rage, some screen punching and curse words, and some of them involve spending some money, that'll have to wait for another day, maybe closer to next years april fools day, but hey this is some fun stuff.  And as always, be safe my goblins.
