The Hacktivist Revolution
Hacktivism is a huge thing we've encountered over the past few years, viewed as both as plague and a breath of relief from the vicious society that is ever attempting to make our lives harder. Sometimes its justified, sometimes its ill conceived, and more often than not it's just a group trying to get seen and gain notoriety.
Those who seek to gain notoriety are those who hack for groups like the Cyber Caliphate focus primarily on getting noticed for nefarious deeds. They are in fact associated with ISIS the biggest terrorist threat we're dealing with at this point.
Groups like Anonymous on the other hand seem to be justified in their attempts to thwart off and change the course of time. I view these groups as kind of a modern day Boston Tea Party, living in the shadows, hiding from the world, but making their status known by rustling the feathers of powers.
Then you have those who think they are justified, those who just hack and say "I'm doing it for this reason" and more often than not their attacks are well... dumb. Case in point the GOP attack (guardians of piece) on Sony, spreading unreleased films on torrent sites and blocking the release of a movie. Wowzers those who were going to boot leg it were... going to bootleg it regardless, doesn't matter if it was 1 week early, or 2 months early.
This all goes back to my previous mentions of being the best bad guy in order to do good. I feel hacktivists get a bad wrap, sure what they do may not exactly be "legal" or "conventional" in the traditional sense, but it gets things moving forward doesn't it? I'll go back to Anonymous, they keep pushing the envelope, and they are the ones viewed as the plague in many cases? Its not fair, they are not a plague, they are a border-less, and open eyed group that tears at the walls of the traditional means of communication.
Hacktivism is a new approach to an old task, getting a message out when you have no voice, when the media machine is to big to be kept quiet, how can your voice be heard?
I applaud the Hactivist movement, and I applaud where it goes, I may not agree with their view points, or maybe I do? That doesn't matter, Hacktivism is here to stay, Hacktivism is going to change how the world functions, Hacktivism isn't a plague, its the new revolution.
I know this was a bit preachy, but with all the crap going on in the world, I want internet gaurdians to know their work is appreciated, keep at it Anonymous. Until next time, be safe my goblins.
